challenge

an up-and-coming pop artist needing a breakout event to celebrate the official release of her first self-made project, inviting both friends and family as well as industry professionals

the event was to be hosted at a local East Village bar, requiring creative executions in the food and beverage space to align with both the vision of the artist and the realities/materials the bar could facilitate

develop a one-of-a-kind beverage experience to bring a new work of music to life

inspiration

the inspiration for the menu stemmed from the artist herself, her EP’s overall sonic “vibe”, and the mental imagery she wanted to evoke from the project’s aesthetic. The EP was filled with personal anecdotes on love, moving on, prioritizing herself and questioning love, with sonic aesthetics the gave a sultry, r&b-adjacent, cheeky, and emotive pop experience.

connecting the vibe and aesthetics of the project to the bar’s current beverage offerings required collaboration with the bar team on ingredients and flavor profiles for their cocktails to ensure cohesion. I selected the existing cocktails on the menu to individually match the story and sound of each song, creating a sensory relation between sound and taste. I wanted the cocktails to both represent and invoke the emotions and stories displayed in the songs.

a custom-built cocktail was also developed to represent the overall feeling of the EP (the “Is It Over”). Working with Caro, we aligned on having the cocktail match the color scheme for the EP artwork (warm colors and floral imagery), with flavors that represented both the uplifting and bitter sides of the project. The result was a take on an aperitif-spritz hybrid, leveraging a sweeter profile to add universal appeal to the cocktail, while balancing the bitter and sweet notes of the ingredients used.
